Rare vintage Shanghai HandiCrafts wicker panda bear sculpture. Handwoven from fine wicker and painted with a satin lacquer. A stunning mid century modern design piece. In excellent vintage condition. Sits flat on base. Surface has the perfect lustre that isn't too shiny or dull and is somewhere right in the middle.
Shanghai Handicrafts are a rich traditional Chinese art that became available in American markets starting as trade between the two countries in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Each piece is hand-woven from fine wicker.
High quality examples of Shanghai Handicrafts artisan work are increasingly rare to find on the open market and some of the pieces that are for sale here are the only examples of their work available. These pieces are impossible to date accurately, but were made from 1930-1980.
